PERKINS TWP. — Brace for Another Broken Egg Cafe, the Sandusky Mall’s newest restaurant, to hatch sometime this month.

“It is opening on Dec. 20, however, I am hearing that it may actually open next week,” mall spokesman Joe Bell said.

Crews recently installed signage above the storefront’s outdoor entrance beside Sandusky Mall’s main entryway. It’s going inside the former Ruby Tuesday’s location.

Documents show the overall investment totaling about $500,000.

On its website, Another Broken Egg Cafe — which boasts about 80 locations across the country — provided a description of itself:

“Another Broken Egg Cafe isn’t your typical breakfast, brunch and lunch place. Our menu is second-to-none, loaded with fresh ingredients and creative recipes across a wide variety of breakfast classics, memorable brunch dishes and lunchtime favorites. Each location is designed to feel like a casual getaway, served up with a generous side of family, friends and friendly service.”

On a related note, the mall also announced another business with a nationwide presence — Ross Dress for Less — intends to open its first brick-and-mortar storefront in Sandusky. It should be located between T.J. Maxx and Five Below.

“Our people and theirs have been exchanging construction drawings,” Bell said about ongoing talks with Ross executives. “We will likely do some preliminary work on the space and deliver it to Ross in May. Barring any unforeseen delays, the store would presumably open in late July.”

Ross describes itself as a business “bringing our customers a constant stream of high-quality department and specialty store brands at extraordinary savings while providing an easy, fun and organized shopping experience,” its website read.

“All of these stores are part of redeveloped space that used to house a Macy’s department store,” Bell said.

A shoe store in Niles was ranked #1 in a national competition for its customer service.

Reyers, a family-owned shoe store located in the Eastwood Mall was ranked #1 in customer service by Footwear Insight Magazine in its “Gold Medal Service Awards.”

This is an annual competition seeking to find the “best of the best” when it comes to customer service. After a nomination and screening process, “secret shoppers” are sent out to hundreds of nominated stores to evaluate their customer service.

From there, the top 70 finalists are selected via a detailed point system with the 70 finalists being named “Gold Medal Winners.” Reyers came out on top this year.

Reyers Vice President, Steven Jubelirer says the store owes everything to its employees for this victory.

“It’s part of our upbringing and we taught them how to be the best,” Steven said.

Company President, Mark Jubelirer described the victory as “unexpected and exhilarating” and noted that Steven’s father taught them a simple truth: “If you take care of the customer, everything else takes care of itself.”

Reyers relocated to the Eastwood Mall in July after more than 130 years in Sharon. Footwear Insight’s judges were impressed that the Jubelirers and their staff were able to make such a bold move and still maintain a high level of customer service.

Reyers has made it on the “Gold Medal Winners” list since Footwear Insight’s founding in 2015.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Shoppers in North Central West Virginia headed to retail locations Friday for the biggest sales day of the year.

At Meadowbrook Mall, the shopping was especially concentrated the morning of Black Friday, as the mall was closed all day for Thanksgiving.

Usually shoppers would swarm the mall after Thanksgiving dinner, but retail locations everywhere have begun to move away from that model because of rising online sales during the pandemic.

Instead of Thanksgiving evening, Meadowbrook Mall opened at 6 a.m. Friday.

Shoppers made their way to the mall, packing the parking lot and forming lines outside some of the bigger stores.

Amy Hackett of Buckhannon was one of thousands of shoppers looking for bargains.

“We’re just browsing. Looking at some shoes and different deals we can find,” she said. “We got some flannels for my boys. They’re into those.”

Hackett, like many shoppers, opted not to shop on Black Friday the past two years, but came back out this year.

“We haven’t been out for a couple years, but we decided to just come out and browse around,” she said.

This Black Friday has been kind to some of Meadowbrook Mall’s newest businesses.

According to James Vanscoy of Donna’s Unique Gifts, the store opened on Oct. 1.

Vanscoy said shopping was especially busy right after the mall opened Friday morning.

“And it’s been still really steady,” he said.

Black Friday looks to be one of the busiest days for Donna’s Unique Gifts thanks to the one-of-a-kind inventory mentioned in the store’s name.

“We’re a unique gift shop so we have a lot of really unique stuff that you can’t find just about anywhere else. So it makes it a great place to come for any kind of gifts for anybody” Vanscoy said.

Vanscoy mentioned that some of the most popular items in the store include mosaic lamps and handcrafted wood carvings.

Sudsberry Homemade Bath & Body opened Feb. 10 at the mall, and also did well.

“It’s been a very busy Black Friday morning,” said Leah Michael, store owner.

Michael added that there were record-setting sales after only being open for about three hours.

“Actually we’ve hit the most sales we’ve ever had in one day already,” Michael said.

As the name suggests, Sudsberry’s inventory includes homemade soaps and fragrance products.

“We sell handmade bath and body products. We make them all right here in the store. We also sell bath accessories … since we do soy wax tarts, we also have fragrance for most of the things like that, too,” Michael said.

Michael noted that the Black Friday sales at Sudsberry were the biggest sales the store has offered as well.

“From 6-9 a.m., we did a 40% off and then we have online orders galore … Then it’s 20% off for the rest of the day,” Michael said.

Sudsberry’s online orders were covering a table behind the checkout counter and overflowing onto the floor and the back of the store.
