Celebrating 45 big ones

On the morning of November 10, 1975, a large, excited crowd jammed into a new and unusual building just outside of Erie, Pennsylvania.  Local political leaders were on hand, along with Miss America Tawny Godin.  With the snip of a ribbon, they kicked off the Grand Opening for the new Millcreek Mall.  The five-day celebration was replete with entertainment, fireworks, professional athletes signing autographs and special sales from 140 stores like Kaufmann’s, Sears, JCPenney, Carlisle’s, Halles and the Boston Store.

Despite all the hoopla that November, Millcreek Mall had actually, quietly, opened its doors for business two months earlier.  That is why this September marks the 45th Anniversary of northwest Pennsylvania’s largest shopping destination.  To mark the occasion, the mall is offering a “thank you” gift to the many loyal guests who continue to visit:  Spend $250 and receive a vintage, commemorative Millcreek Mall t-shirt.  Shoppers should save their receipts from any combination of stores on the mall complex September 1 – 30.  Take them to the Customer Service Center to claim the limited edition t-shirt, while supplies last.

The Millcreek Mall Complex is located on upper Peach Street and Interstate 79 in Millcreek Township, near Erie, Pennsylvania.  Since its opening in 1975 it has been expanded and renovated numerous times, keeping it up-to-date with current regional mall uses, trends and occupancies. The complex currently comprises more than 2 million square feet of shopping, lodging, dining and entertainment.  For more information, visit www.millcreekmall.net.  Millcreek Mall Complex is owned and managed as part of the Cafaro family of companies, based in Niles, Ohio.  To learn more about the Cafaro organization, go to www.cafarocompany.com.
