Sixty students in the Warren City Schools were provided the chance for success through sight this school year thanks to the Cafaro Foundation.

Third graders underwent reading assessments and those identified with difficulties were given a full eye examination in early 2020 evaluating and treating visual
and medical conditions that can limit academic success.

This program was possible due to a grant to ‘Sight for All United’ by the Cafaro Foundation for almost $13,000.

This grant allowed a multi-level collaboration among various community organizations, eye doctors, foundations and businesses.

“It’s heartbreaking to think that a child can’t learn because of some basic need that’s not met” said Phyllis Cafaro, of the Cafaro Foundation. “We’re happy to support the wonderful efforts of eye care professionals to alleviate vision problems for local children.”

Sight for All United, provides vision services to the community regardless of the ability to pay.

Sight for All United implements the school vision programs, recruits eye doctors from the community, organizes therapy and medical care, distributes and fits the glasses at the school for the children.

According to Sergul Erzurum, M.D., Co-founder of Sight for All United, children are often misdiagnosed with attention deficit disorder or receive behavioral related diagnosis, when in fact, their vision could be a major contributing factor in their ability to learn.

“This grant from the Cafaro Foundation is tremendous. We’re grateful for the partnerships we have with the United Way of Trumbull County, Sight for All United, Essilor Vision Foundation, and Classic Optical,” said Superintendent Steve Chiaro of the Warren School District. “It allows our district to provide a much-needed wrap-around service for our students and families.”
