BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — An upcoming career expo signals major growth in Belmont County and the surrounding area.
Officials says the job market is strong in the county, there are more opportunities than people right now. If you’re seeking employment, you’ll want to stop by the Ohio Valley Mall on May 1.
“I’ve been in this employment training business for 31 years in May, and I’ve never seen it like this,” said Mike Schlanz, with OhioMeansJobs, a division of the Belmont County’s Department of Job and Family Services.
He addressed county commissioners on Wednesday, saying more employers are looking to hire, but less people are available to fill those positions.
“Oil and gas, medical field, social services, food service, transportation, CDL drivers, everybody is looking for people to work,” Schlanz said.
And all those industries will have representatives on hand at the 13th Ohio Valley Job Fair.
Nearly 100 businesses are registered, including schools, hospitals and restaurants.
“If you’re eligible, we (OhioMeansJobs) can help with training money to go to school for welding, get your CDL license, whatever you consider demand occupation in Ohio,” Schlanz said.
The job fair takes place from noon-4 p.m. at the mall.
Anyone is welcome to attend
