Dubuque Winter Farmers’ Market Finds a New Home at Kennedy Mall
Starting Jan. 4, 2020, the Dubuque Winter Farmers’ Market moves west to its new location inside of Kennedy Mall. What was previously a men’s department store will now house the 40 vendors that make up the winter farmers’ market. The move to this new location offers more room for vendors, additional areas to eat and plenty of free parking. Farmers, bakers, and producers will offer their products every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon from January through April. The market will be located in the west concourse of the mall between Planet Fitness and Shoe Carnival.
“Kennedy Mall is pleased to welcome the winter farmers’ market,” said Kennedy Mall Marketing Director Liz Rogers. “Our goal is to create a space that brings the community together, so moving the farmers’ market to the mall was an obvious pairing for us. The farmers’ market is a place where people come to meet their farmers, their neighbors, make new friends and reconnect with old friends. We’re excited to extend that experience to our shoppers and to provide more offerings when they visit the mall. The more value that we can offer to the community, the more that the mall and our tenants will succeed.”
Farmers’ market shoppers continue to come back for the organic array of hand-picked produce, fresh meats and eggs, home-canned pickles, jams and jellies, and baked goods. Paula Connors, vendor coordinator for the Dubuque Winter Farmers’ Market, explained that it’s important to encourage the development and use of farm and homemade products throughout Dubuque County. “Local food supports local families,” she said. “Did you know that every dollar you spend with a local farmer circulates in your community a handful of times?” Connors hopes that the market’s move to Kennedy Mall will not only continue to support the local economy, but also bring in new customers on the west end of Dubuque.
